Shubunkin Goldfish are hardy, pretty, and great for the beginner
Shubunkin goldfish
are a wonderful, pretty, and playful, variety of fish. They have been bred only as a Calico’s. Calico fish have their own unique markings of black, white, orange, red, brown, and light blue which makes them very special.
Shubunkin goldfish, have unique opalescence scales, this is there most special feature.
These fish are similar shaped to the
Comet,
as they have a long slender body. They are single tailed, but grow to be pretty large fish. Because of this, if you decide to invite this goldfish into your home you’ll need a large
aquarium.
These fish love to swim, and are really fast swimmers too.
There are three different types of Shubunkin: Japanese/U.S. Shubunkin, London Shubunkin, and the Bristol Shubunkin.
The Japanese/U.S. Shubunkin is the most basic variety out of the three. It has a deeply forked caudal fin which is longer than the fish’s body.
The London Shubunkin was created by a lady called Mrs. Whittington which has a short caudal fin a quarter of the length of the fish’s body.
The Bristol Shubunkin was created by the Bristol Aquarists Society in England. This is a stunning fish with longer rounded caudal fins. The Bristol Aquarist's Society, is an excellent website. They can be found at www.bristol-aquarists-org.uk/.
The society, is a wealth of information about all types of goldfish, and has many amazing photos. They specialize in 'show goldfish', and when looking at their website, they'll explain all the peramaters, it takes to own a winning goldfish.
The Shubunkin goldfish are excellent fish for the beginner. They are hardy, and very loveable.
