A perfect beginner goldfish aquarium is 10 gallons

You have to remember that your goldfish aquarium is your new pet’s home. You want it to be the best home possible; for them to feel comfortable and happy.

Goldfish love to swim and need room to zoom around in. A small goldfish aquarium needs more cleaning and upkeep. If it’s not cleaned regularly it will create a polluted environment for your fish to live in, which could kill it. (To find out how to easily clean your fish tank click here.) But, if your aquarium is too big, it could become a huge burden for you to manage. So, you need to find a happy medium.

A 10 gallon aquarium is an excellent size for the beginner enthusiast.

Once you’ve got the right size fish tank, you need to know where to put it. Really bad places are where temperatures fluctuate and can affect the fish tanks water temperature, for instance: a window, or a place by a door. Another bad place is next to the stereo or near loud noises. All these factors can stress your fish.

Stressed fish can become sick fish. For example Ick, and Fin Rot, are stress related goldfish diseases.

Most aquariums have lights which are great, but you need to switch them off at night. Your goldfish like to sleep too, and it’s just as annoying of them to sleep with the light on as it is for you.
