Common goldfish are far from common

Common goldfish is such an awful and mundane name for such a beautiful and tough fish. There are so many different types of goldfish but, the common goldfish is far from common.

It’s a beautiful fish with mainly golden orange scales. It can live in aquariums, pools and ponds. This wonderful pet, is very hardy, and can survive in pretty grotty conditions where other types of fish would give up trying. But, as with all things, treat your pet with love and respect and you’ll reap the rewards.

This type of goldfish is very social. They can be kept with other fish, and your aquatic world will still maintain its natural harmony. Mind you, you’ll soon find that your fish has its own personality as did ‘Bubbles’ my first ever goldfish which will make you love your pet all the more.

The really cool thing about this type of goldfish is that they like to play and have fun when they are in groups. Of course, you’ll have to have a large and aerated aquarium as the more fish you have the more living and swimming room they need. To find out more about goldfish behavior, please click here.

I hate to touch on the subject of ‘feeder fish’, but Common goldfish tend to be the specific breed used for this horrible role. But, our wonderful fish die while fighting back. Their skeletons are difficult for larger fish to digest, and can cause many health problems for the fish carnivore. Poetic justice if you ask me!
