Aquatic plants do more for your goldfish than just look good
The world of
aquatic plants
at first can be quiet daunting. There are so many of them.
Plants in the
aquarium
are an excellent addition to your pets water world. If your goldfish could talk they’d thank you for adding them to their tank. Aquatic plants not only look nice, they actually help your fish live in a cleaner environment.
Plants help to put oxygen back into the water which is great, and they live on the wastes that your fish produce. Your fish will also enjoy munching on the plants, as mid morning and afternoon snacks. Plus, although we love to watch our pets swimming around we have to remember they too like some private time, and having plants in the aquarium gives them a place to hide and 'Chill Out'.
The plants that you do decide to add to your fish tank will benefit your fish. As I said earlier there are so many to choose from it can be daunting. But, if you use some initiative and experimentation you’ll get to know which plants your pets like the best. If you look at the plants and they have small leaves, and if your fish are small, the chances of your fish liking this plant is pretty high. The bigger leafier plants are good for your fishes ‘Time Out’, and down time.
There are a few down sides to having plants though:
-The leaves that your fish have pulled on and played with will easily rot, adding pollutants to the water.
-The plants could have leeches, snails, and parasites hidden in their leaves, which will attack your fish in time. You should disinfect the plants before adding them to the tank with 1 portion of bleach to 19 portions of water for a few moments. Or as most people do, rinse the plants under running water.
-You will need to replace the plants occasionally, as your goldfish will eat them all away.
Adding
aquatic plants
to your
aquarium
is a really good idea. They help to take
care of your goldfish
without you having to do too much work, which is always a good thing. The above photo was taken by Wings-in-the-water. To look at more wonderful photos from this talented photographer please look at the Flickr website.
