Aquarium water change must be done regularly; your fish depend on you.
Aquarium water change
is essential to your pets health and longevity.
You need to be a little bit organized, and fill a bowl, or water container with water and let it stand overnight with some dichloride added to it. This does several different things, and all of which make the transition of aquarium water change easier for your fish.
Allowing the water to stand over night allows toxins from your tap water to dissipate. The dichloride helps to remove the chlorine from the water as chlorine is really toxic and poisonous for your fish. If it’s not removed from the water your pets will suffocate or get lesions. Either way, it’s a painful death and I don’t even want to go there. Plus, allowing the water to stand overnight makes sure that the water is at room temperature, which is just perfect.
The water changes should happen at least once a week. When you keep the water clean its excellent preventative medicine ensuring healthy fish and keeping diseases away. There are some really horrid
goldfish diseases
and it’s easier to make sure your goldfish stay healthy rather than having to cure them.
So, you’ve prepared the water the day before, and now you’re ready to change the water in the aquarium. You’ll need a siphon tube and clean hands. You want to make sure there’s no soap on your hands as that too is poisonous for your pet. The siphon tube is a great tool, as you will remove about 30% of water in your fish tank, and at the same time suck out all of their feces that’s hidden in the gravel at the bottom. You only need to take about a third of the water out as if you take out much more water it’ll stress your fish.
Scrape away any algae that’s growing on the edge of the aquarium, using a credit card is a good trick, and siphon this out of the fish tank. Then you can slowly add the fresh water you’ve already prepared. All that’s left is to re-hook up the filter system, and you’re ready to watch your goldfish swim and play in clean water.
